OpenNebula Systems Announces OpenNebula for VMware Cloud on AWS

OpenNebula provides cloud provisioning features integrating on-premise vSphere deployments with VMware Cloud on AWS

CAMBRIDGE, MA, August 22, 2018 — OpenNebula Systems today announced OpenNebula is available to customers of VMware Cloud™ on AWS. VMware Cloud on AWS brings together VMware’s enterprise-class Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) software and elastic, bare-metal infrastructure from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to give organizations consistent operating model and application mobility for private and public cloud. OpenNebula enables cloud orchestration and provisioning features to customers of VMware Cloud on AWS.

OpenNebula is intended for companies interested in creating a self-service cloud environment on top of their existing VMware infrastructure, thus eliminating the need to retool the entire stack. In these environments, OpenNebula seamlessly integrates with existing vCenter infrastructures to expose a multi-tenant, cloud-like provisioning layer, including features like virtual data centers, data center federation or hybrid cloud computing to connect in-house vCenter infrastructures with public clouds. Resources like VM, VM templates, datastores and networks can be easily imported from vCenter infrastructures to OpenNebula.

“OpenNebula deploys an enterprise-ready cloud just in a few minutes where the infrastructure is managed by already familiar VMware tools, such as vCenter Operations Manager, and the provisioning, elasticity and multi-tenancy cloud features are offered by OpenNebula.”– Tino Vázquez, VP of Engineering of OpenNebula Systems. “The certification of OpenNebula on VMware Cloud on AWS allows customers to grow their on-premise cloud infrastructure on-demand with new vSphere-based cloud resources on AWS, managing your local VMware infrastructure and the remote vSphere resources offered by AWS in a transparent fashion for your end users.”

VMware Cloud on AWS technology partners enable customers to deploy the same proven solutions seamlessly in both the public and private cloud. VMware simplifies the deployment and eliminates the need for partners to refactor solutions for VMware Cloud on AWS. If a partner solution works on-premises in a VMware vSphere® environment, it will easily support VMware Cloud on AWS. VMware technology partners complement and enhance native VMware Cloud on AWS service and enable customers to realize new capabilities.

“VMware Cloud on AWS provides customers a seamlessly integrated hybrid cloud offering that gives customers the SDDC experience from the leader in private cloud, running on the leading public cloud provider, AWS,” said Kristen Edwards, director, Technology Alliance Partner Program, VMware. “Solutions such as OpenNebula enable IT teams to reduce cost, increase efficiency, and create operational consistency across cloud environments. We’re excited to work with partners such as OpenNebula Systems to enhance native VMware Cloud on AWS capabilities and empower customers with flexibility and choice in solutions that can drive business value.”
